The making of this film is a story of its own, in a way it adds to the folklore of the novel. I have a special fondness for the film, even though it doesn't fulfil what it truly should have been. There's just something so magical about the story itself, the period, the actors, the atmosphere, the location, the cinematography, the soundtrack - that I guess I can't help but fill in the blanks in order to justify how it makes me feel. I was just curious as to what your sources were regarding your knowledge of the real nature of the film scene when the grandmother catches them in a compromising situation as it were originally intended and also the extension of their mother's beating. There were so many details mentioned in your post that I can't help but feel compelled to find where they came from. "The Complete V.C. ANDREWS" is an immense trove and archival resource for her work and seems pretty exhaustive. Do you know of any websites, or works, or anything related to V.C. Andrews or Flowers in The Attic particularly that may be similar in nature and just as comprehensive? I really want to know every single detail I can put my finger on regarding the novel and the movie. Thank you for such a wonderful insight and interest on your part.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08097720630518543609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6779039681845995448.post-89788619746040318262020-02-03T17:54:31.365-08:002020-02-03T17:54:31.365-08:00someone posted the original ending on youtube:

I did an update several months back, talking about the 2014 Lifetime remake and I mentioned the Arrow Blu-Ray release as well. Lots of special features; maybe one day a director's cut will be released. I think the original ending would have worked better than the studio one. I enjoyed both the book and the 1987 as well. If you don't live in the UK, you'll have to purchase a region-free Blu-ray player in order to view the Arrow disc, but it's worth it! Thanks again!Muirmaidenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07974008758705690487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6779039681845995448.post-62413016475671071482019-09-01T14:56:40.066-07:002019-09-01T14:56:40.066-07:00I love both the novel and the 1987 movie. I guess it was on Arrow Video Instagram (who released a new blu ray print that included deleted scenes). They posted the scene of the grandmother with the knife attacking. I was amazed to see it. I tried to locate it but didn’t find because it was a long time ago. Guess it is available in their release. Good article on it!JRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09995111361976865697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6779039681845995448.post-66574196895205930892019-01-05T18:40:48.588-08:002019-01-05T18:40:48.588-08:00Wow. Jeffrey Bloom stated in the Blu-Ray liner notes that if he had access to the original negative (wonder if it's still around somewhere) he would cut the film as he intended.Muirmaidenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07974008758705690487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6779039681845995448.post-9085727054563903632018-06-15T10:36:38.733-07:002018-06-15T10:36:38.733-07:00I received this email from Arrow:

As a workprint, there would have been further differences compared to the final cut, but we felt that the alternate ending was the main priority to capture so focused our efforts on retrieving that.Michael555https://www.blogger.com/profile/11822390653076084633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6779039681845995448.post-23796544144951527202018-03-29T15:08:10.608-07:002018-03-29T15:08:10.608-07:00Thanks for the info. I haven't heard back from any of the companies that I contacted about a director's cut.
